Do you need a TV licence to watch TV on your PC ( UK)?

If someone was using thier pc to watch TV, would they need a licence?

Answer:

yes soon you will need a license if you breath oxygen
i can’t remember hte name of the site but there is a really good one telling u how to avoid paying the tv license

there are only about 8 detector vans in the uk(that is a rumour i heard and there hasnt been a lot of evidence to suggest otherwise

you have the right to refuse entry to the parasite if they ever knock on the doorn however they can get a ‘warrant’ and return with the fuzz if they ‘suspect’ u have a tv
ignore the letters like if we dont hear from u in 3 days you will be prosecuted UNLESS they write that u havvecommited a particular offence with times and details
we live in a society of fear most of it caused by the govt

Yes! Whenever you watch live TV in the UK you need a licence. Wether it’s on TV, PC or via the Web

  • leambi says:

Yes you do, any TV receiving equipment needs to have a tv licence, robbing bastards aren’t they, although they would have to prove that you had been watching stuff on the PC.

  • Mc says:

a lot of people will no doubt say no, but i dont think thats correct, im sure its something stupid like if its got a tuner in it then you need a license

  • Why yes I remember you now! says:

I think you probably do, but can it be detected in the same way?

  • lisa. says:

yes you do. i looked this up last night. just had my licence reminder and i wondered if i could do away with the TV. The licence is so expensive.

  • darkfury says:

yh although i dont have one even though ive got a tv i simply cant afford one

  • Polo says:

    Yes…

  • Kam K says:

thats a good question. if they where using the internet then i should think so. but if you where using ur monitor to power out signal from you digital box then i should think you do.

  • Knownow't says:

Yes, any device capable of receiving TV needs a licence…..but the licence is for the premises rather than the device.

  • Adi says:

Yes, you need a license to watch TV on your PC, if it’s getting TV from a tuner device – it’s just like any other TV receiving equipment. If you’re streaming TV from the internet, you don’t need a license.

  • Adze says:

Yes most definitely.Even having VHS player and a DVD
recorder warrants a TV licence, silly i know but it is the law.

Yes, it’s the law. I purchased a USB digital tv tuner from PC world and received a letter from TV licensing, informing me that I needed to buy a tv license.

  • bad bob says:

i am afraid so but the good news is the detector van cant detect you

  • tom_p1980 says:

Only IF it has a tuner. The same as your TV, if you can prove that it isn’t being used to accept TV boradcasts you don’t need a license, so remove it (or untune your TV) next time the TV License Enforcers (thugs) are in town. ; )

  • KJ says:

    Yep, they would.

I used to work for a computer company, and we were obligated to inform the TV Licensing people about any computer or other equipment we sold which had a TV tuner in it.

  • joan k says:

    Yes it’s a shame isn’t it

  • annabel m says:

yes, I thought not but asked the TV licensing people who made it clear you need a licence for any equipment that receives the TV signal
